Early Thanksgiving for firefighters

Firefighters in St. Petersburg got their Thanksgiving meal a few days early, thanks to one of the Tampa Bay area's most popular sports figures.
Former Tampa Bay Buccaneer Mike Alstott and his family delivered Thanksgiving dinners to all 12 fire statations in St. Petersburg.

Firefighters who are working on Thanksgiving came in greet the Alstotts and accept the special delivery.

"It really is a huge benefit to us. We are on-duty and a lot of stores are closed, " says Lt. Brett Ciskoski. "It allows the guys to eat a good meal while they're away from their families and it really does benefit us."

The work is part of the Mike Alstott Family Foundation, which was formed in 2007 to provide community service.

"It's pretty much appreciation for what they do," Alstott said. "Obviously it's a difficult task for them to risk their lives every day to keep us safe. Plus, they're having to do it on a day where they're supposed to be around their friends and families, so we're just giving our appreciation to them."

The Alstott family will also be cooking and serving Thanksgiving dinner to families staying at the Ronald McDonald House on Thursday.
